Listening to one’s inner voice and engaging in self-reflection can help illuminate various personal struggles and concerns. This project began with the question of whether it might be possible to create opportunities for such reflection, and whether even the “holes in the heart”—feelings of lack, longing, or incompleteness—could be approached with a sense of curiosity and playfulness rather than simply something to be filled.

At the core of the project is a collaborative game played with a single piece of fabric. Roughly the size of a handkerchief, the fabric contains multiple holes. Two participants hold its edges and work together to guide a ball across the surface and into the holes. The project is presented both as a series of works featuring different textile designs and through participatory workshops.

As participants attempt to achieve the simple goal of guiding the ball, they naturally become attentive to the subtle tension and movement of the fabric, as well as to the gestures and rhythms of the other person. In adjusting themselves to one another and maintaining balance together, a form of nonverbal communication emerges.

This experience invites participants to reconsider “holes” not merely as deficiencies to be avoided or filled, but as openings through which relationships can arise. Sharing the act of holding and navigating the fabric together fosters a sense of “being here together,” and may contribute to emotional well-being and mutual care.
