ビニルハウスを二重構造とし、そのあいだに風によって綿が舞い上がる空間を設えた本作は、輪郭や境界そのものに厚みを与える試みである。
通常、物体の輪郭は、それ自体を定義する明確な境界として知覚される。しかし本作では、ビニルハウスの外皮を二重化することで、その「あいだ」に新たな空間を立ち上げた。そこでは風が流れ、綿が漂い続けることで、境界は単なる線ではなく、出来事が生起する場として現れる。
鑑賞者はハウスの内部に身を置きながら、その周囲を取り巻く風や綿の動きを身体的に体験する。これまで固定的に捉えられてきた「内」と「外」の境界は、ここで拡張され、揺らぎを伴った関係の場へと変化していく。
本作は、know galleryで開催した個展「BLOW IN｜内に吹き込む」にて発表した作品である。農業とアートの接続による新たな価値創造を掲げるknow galleryの文脈に呼応し、ビニルハウスという農業的構造物を用いながら、その境界性そのものを問い直す試みとして制作された。
This work consists of a double-layered greenhouse structure, with cotton fibers circulating in the space between the two layers through the movement of wind. It is an attempt to give spatial presence to contours and boundaries themselves.
Ordinarily, the contour of an object is perceived as a clear line that defines and separates it from its surroundings. In this work, however, the greenhouse's outer skin is doubled, creating an intermediate space between inside and outside. Within this space, wind flows and cotton drifts continuously, transforming the boundary from a fixed line into a site of movement and events.
Visitors experience the movement of wind and floating cotton through their own bodies while inhabiting the interior of the structure. The boundary between “inside” and “outside,” often assumed to be stable and impermeable, is expanded and set into fluctuation, becoming a space where relationships and encounters can emerge.
This work was presented in the solo exhibition BLOW IN at know gallery. Responding to the gallery’s mission of creating new forms of value through the intersection of agriculture and art, the project employs the greenhouse—a structure associated with cultivation and protection—as a means of reconsidering the nature of boundaries themselves.
